It is official; I am a Social Media news junkie. And I want to recruit you to this world of virtual thinkers. Do you have a minute to spare? I am sure this is not going to take long.
Do you find it hard to interact on social media? By Social media platforms like: I am referring to Google Plus, Blogs, Twitter, Facebook, Flicker, and ‘such alike’: Well, here let me help you out. Let us make this Social Media Experience better.
Be real: Do not pretend to know everything. No one does. [Even I don’t know.] People will always track you down if you are not authentic, and in the end you will not be trusted. Do not fake interest as well. It shows. Authenticity counts.
Content is key:
Pictures, Blog posts, whatever you share: It matters . But you need to make it count. It should be worth sharing. I think that we often times get this wrong, but then again it boils down to why we are on these networks. And those reasons are really diverse.
Try out new things/Explore:
There is no right and no wrong in social media if you really do think about it. Interesting though is that people complain. I have heard people give up on interacting on the social networks. So why give up? Take time to experiment and observe the results. Should be great!
Give and it will come back to you. Freely so: When you do so, you get to realize that people are actually interested in what you have to say. This is more important especially when you do so daily or rather on a regular basis. Retweet, share on facebook and Googleplus, comment on blogs, share articles and just say hi or thank you or well done. Give credit where it is due: In simple terms: Be social, Do not be mean. That is what the networks are all about.
By this I mean, Have a passion and interest that you are known for. Interact with people that share the same passion. In the end, you will realize that you have more to share and talk about because you have a common end.
That is the reason why people have two ears right? Imagine you have 500 people that you follow and about 200 of them are active daily. That is a lot of conversation going on; so it is almost impossible to to really listen. However you can decide to use tools that will help you track down what is being said about topics that you love. Buffer is one such tool.
Take time to know people in person. Crazy, huh? Attend Conferences, Tweet-ups and coffee meet ups. I know that some of the relationships that I have built through Twitter for example, have been the best so far. I have gotten amazing networks too. Connect with people locally and internationally. One such gathering in Uganda for me was #AfricaGathering. There is Villages in Action and Women in Technology too. Not to forget Momo K’la. And when you get there introduce yourself. Let people get to know you. There is a thrill that comes with putting a face to tweets!
Be mindful of others:
Respect other people’s opinions and views. Do not let them dictate what you have to say. Have you own voice just as in real life! Social Media provides a great platform to share your views and opinions. Do not forget though to think before you act. It is advisable not to let our emotions hurt us. There is always going to be people that go out of their way to upset you. So b.r.e.a.t.h.e before you reply. And learn to respond to stuff in context.
At the end of the day I think that social Media is fun but it totally depends on how you use it! I sa: it is a great way in which to develop yourself, your career, your business and your passion. So get networking.
And make it count for you.
I am hoping that you get to enjoy your experience and that it is an even better experience.Hits:113
